"Laproscopic hysterectomy"

About: Ayrshire Central Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

After years of trying to find a way to manage extreme pain and abnormal bleeding I was passed to Dr Sokolova to discuss a hysterectomy who agreed to carry out the surgery.

I was seen quickly and promptly by her for my initial consultation, had my pre-op booked and then received a call from her office just after Christmas to advise my surgery date. Everything went according to plan, I saw Dr Sokolova prior to my surgery and everything went well. All staff where lovely and kept me at ease. Nice tidy incisions and no infections. I felt confident in her attitude and her work, due to the fact she has a straight to the point attitude and a mp nonsense approach. Overall I would highly recommend Dr Sokolova to anyone needing assistance with gynaecology issues.

Sadly the level of care on the ward wasn't as great as the level care shown prior. I was in a high degree of pain and felt quite unwell yet was made to feel like I was unnecessarily taking up a bed. Morphine tablets weren't lasting a full 3hrs before pain became unbearable and I was having alot of pain passing urine. The rounds doctor asked me to do a urine sample which I did. I indicated to a nurse that my sample was covered in the bathroom, but it remained there for over 3hrs until it was brought up again. The sample would have been contaminated but I wasn't asked to do another and by this point I felt like no one was taking me seriously. Whilst on the ward I'd complained of chest pain, which a doctor listened to my chest and decided it may be gas and I was given peppermint tablets, the pain continued after discharge and I was readmitted the next week with a suspected blood clot due to intense chest pain and was advised I should have received fragmen injections (or an alternative) on leaving the hospital, something I and pharmacy had actually enquired about but were told by nursing staff weren't required.
