"cancelled operation afte waiting over 6 months"

About: Royal Papworth Hospital (Papworth Everard)

My Dad has been waiting since August for an appointment for an operation to replace an aortic valve ,after two years of problems , finally the day comes , had the pre op couple weeks before, everyone feeling apprehensive, nervous worried, lots of planning ,family having to arrange time off work, , dogs to sort , as my dad lives on his own , arrangements for after care etc. Everything on hold.

then the

day comes, booked into the hospital told 3rd on list, then hour later told there has been cancellation then moved forward to 12 o'clock rather than 4 o'clock, all prepared in gown and waiting to go then AT 2.30 told operation cancelled due to no beds , which I find hard to believe as there already had been a cancellation and they were reassuring the other patients waiting that this does not concern them as its a different surgeon so ,what's that got to do with beds.

Then they say for compensation we can offer you some food!!! ,its not food my dad needs its the operation,

74 year old man anxious, worked up mentally prepared for this operation then to be told to go home and will get a call in 28 days

absolutely disgusting and no real explanation.

I'm worried he will get weaker in the meantime, his heart is already enlarged and worried about his mental state of mind.

the nurses were excellent can not fault them, but the management who make

these decisions without a thought , and also I think the news should come from the surgeon themselves to re assure the patient he will be ok or from the management who make these decisions to see the real re action and worry and disappointment they are making to these people lives.
