I was taken to ED at the Royal Lancaster with a suspected heart attack late on a Monday night with my wife and 6 year old baby. Initially they calmed me down and reassured me and said that they thought it would be gastro related as the ECG was normal until the blood test results came back and showed a possible heart attack. Was admitted on Coronary Care at 4 in the morning and suddenly deteriorated after being given a spray to reduce the pain. Over the next three days had a series of cardiac tests all of which showed that the chest was not cardio but showed a heart condition that the spray reacted with that explained the reason for my deterioration. Then the gastro team stepped in and found two more conditions by the time I was discharged on the 7th day. Whilst on the ward the care I received was exceptional, I was looked after without fault, even once I ceased to be a cardio patient. They found a big comfortable chair that allowed my wife to breastfeed our baby in next to my and were flexible with visiting times to suit our needs within reason. I suffer from mental health problems and was able to be open with the staff who gave me support to help with my anxiety and the uncertainty of not knowing what was wrong with me. Having previously been a carer for a number of years I have experienced a number of hospitals and this is by far the best experience I’ve had.
