"Very well cared for during induced labour"

About: University Hospital (Coventry) / Maternity

My second child was born on 3rd January after an induced labour and I was very happy with my care.

I went in on 2nd January to be induced (with propress), I was monitored periodically throughout the day and night while waiting for labour to get started. The midwives and staff were lovely and took great care of me, I was encouraged to rest, eat, sleep, I watched TV, bounced on a birthing ball, took short walks etc. was given some painkillers when I asked for some (paracetamol).

I had the unique experience of being the only patient in the ward overnight, but the midwives said that was very rare. Labour started at 21.00 on 3rd January,

I was taken to a delivery room at 22.00 and my son was born just 90 minutes later. I'm an older mum (39) so feel quite lucky that everything went well (the midwives warned me that induced labour can be unpredictable, but thankfully it was straightforward in my case). All the newborn checks were done efficiently and we were home the next day at lunchtime. The food served in the ward could do with more veg, salads and fresh fruits, but I felt like I'd had enough simple foods to keep my energy up for labour.

Dear Bonnie,

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your recent positive experience of the Labour Ward at University Hospital. I was pleased to read that the birth of your second child went well and that you were so well looked after during your short stay. We are very pleased that everything went well and that there were no complications with the induced labour.

Your kind comments will be passed on to the team on the Labour Ward.

I apologise that you felt as though more fruit and vegetables could have been on offer during your stay, I will pass your comments on and see if this can be amended in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, we appreciate all comments both positive and negative, as it means we can better understand what is important to our patients and continually improve.
