"No empathy whatsoever"

About: Carseview Centre / General Psychiatry

(as a relative),

My husband was an inpatient 2019.  The staff we came into contact with were very uncaring like they couldn’t give a toss. Treated my husband as scum and he has been man handled by a member of the night staff. As a relative I feel I was treated disgraceful on the phone when questioning my husbands medical needs.

As for the ward itself they had a lady on the male corridor staying. The Rooms my husband was in are a disgrace blood on the roof and what appeared to be faeces on the walls. Other patients entered others bedrooms but when my husband told the other patient to get out as he was sleeping, my husband was spoken to and told not to speak to other patients like that.

I feel the staff I saw don’t care all they care about is sitting in the staff room in the middle of the ward and when disrupted hell have no fury on the person that disrupted them. They don’t allow people to be out their bedrooms past midnight they make them go back to bed. For people who genuinely need help and are in there to get it, it's a disgrace, no empathy what so ever!

I am very sorry to read the description of both you and your husband’s care experience at the Carseview Centre. The experience described falls short of the standards of care we expect for patients and their families.

I would like to have the opportunity to meet with you and your husband in person to discuss your concerns so that improvements in practice can be made.

If you would be willing to do so, I can be contacted via the NHS Tayside Complaints and Feedback Team on 0800 027 5507 (freephone) or feedback.tayside@nhs.net

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards.

Keith Russell

Associate Nurse Director, Mental Health and Learning Disabilities
