"We will never forget & be forever grateful"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Care of the Elderly (Wards 13-16)

(as a relative),

Our Dad had been suffering from kidney cancer with metastatic spread for 4 years and kept very well.  However, in December he became very unwell and was admitted to Ward 12 in Hairmyres Hospital.  The nursing care he received in the month he was there was outstanding.  On Sunday in early  March he was readmitted to Hairmyres and was transferred back to Ward 12 which all of us, particularly our Dad, were delighted about.  Unfortunately his condition quickly deteriorated and he sadly passed away, in the ward.

We are absolutely devastated but take a great deal of comfort in the outstanding care my dad, and we, received from all the staff.  Every single member of the nursing and support staff were wonderful and couldn’t have done more for us.  We would, however, like to acknowledge, and thank, the members of staff who were directly involved with our Dads care.  Fiona, the Deputy Charge Nurse.  Staff Nurses Colette, Nicole, Laura, Chris and Isobel.  Health Care Assistants Geri, Karen and Ann and bank HCA Ellen, and Nancy the tea lady, all provided an exceptional level of care and support that we will never forget and will be forever grateful for.

Dear Roberts’s daughter

Thank you so much for the feedback which you have posted on the care opinion website. Please accept my sincere condolences on the death of your father. I have already shared your feedback with SCN Baker and the team involved, when I spoke to them they knew immediately who your dad was. It is an honour and a privilege to be able to provide care for people when they come into hospital but especially so when someone is at the end of their lives. The fact that you have taken the time to post feedback during this difficult period speaks volumes about the quality of care that your dad and your family received and I know the ward 12 team are extremely proud and humbled to have been part of his journey.

What we have once enjoyed, we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes part of us.” -Helen Keller

Wishing you and your family strength as you grieve for your father

Kirsty
