"You really do a fantastic job!!"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital / Accident and emergency Musgrove Park Hospital / General medicine South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as the patient),

On Wednesday at 9.05pm at age 50 I suffered a stroke.  I was taken by ambulance. to MPH.  The ambulance staff were very helpful courteous and professional although they were unsure if I’d suffered a stroke as the symptoms weren’t black and white,  yet they telephoned ahead and treated me as if I had.

On arrival at MPH In A&E again I was treated by nurses and doctors who showed nothing but professional care and compassion for me and every other patient brought in.  At 3.00 am I was admitted to the AMU ward and again the staff, nurses and doctors showed nothing but genuine care for me, despite the ward being very busy and having  (in my view) some pretty high maintenance and patience trying patients on it.  Some of which were very elderly scared and confused.

Once my diagnosis was  confirmed following an MRI I was transferred to Dunkery Ward.  I really felt I needed to put pen to paper as it were, to show my appreciation to all the nurses, doctors, porters and staff that I came in contact with.  I was in complete awe the whole time of the staff of both wards which obviously have some pretty poorly people on them.  These men and women clearly have complete compassion for their jobs and it takes a certain sort of person to carry out this type of work.  I know it is their jobs, but I feel they really do deserve some recognition.  Despite being short staffed (a conversation I just about overheard) they didn’t complain they just pulled together and got on with it!  They also remained patient and courteous at all times to the patients even to some of which  whom weren’t exactly showing them the same.

These guys really don’t get the appreciation they deserve and I hope that my thanks gets passed on to all the staff in A&E, AMU and Dunkery Ward that I may have seen or have been seen by, between 11.00pm on Tuesday and when I was discharged on Saturday at 12.30 lunchtime.  You really do a fantastic job!!

Dear GHH633,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story and I hope you are recovering well.

It is always rewarding to hear stories of how our staff are delivering care and support to patients and those around them when they need it most.

We would be happy to share your story with the ambulance staff involved in this instance, however, to do so we will need some specific information. If you would like us to do this, please may I ask you to contact us on either plaudits@swast.nhs.uk or 01392 261 534 and a member of the Patient Engagement Team will be happy to help you further.

Thank you, again, for taking the time to provide us with feedback.

Kind regards,

Sharifa
