I was admitted to ward 17 after I had attended BECS and then A&E with a high temperature and high heart rate. I was admitted with mastitis and started on a course of IV antibiotics. At this time I was really struggling with breastfeeding and it wasn’t working for me, although I could not admit this to myself at the time and really struggled mentally with this. I encountered the kindest, most compassionate and supportive midwife who helped me through the decision I made to start bottle feeding. She walked me through making this decision and she did this with such empathy, care and warmth that helped me feel comfortable and much better with my decision. She helped me to see that I was important and made me feel empowered. She truly was lovely and should know how much she helped me and what a difference her care made to my journey into motherhood.
Alongside this lovely midwife, I encountered many brilliant staff members during my admission who all seem to really enjoy their job and work very hard, the ward as a whole should be very proud of the care they deliver. From the student nurse who sat with me at points during the night when I was struggling to the auxiliary nurse who couldn’t have been more helpful, everyone was very supportive and excelled in their roles. I can’t praise the ward highly enough and I am just sorry it took so long to complete this.
