"Broken Ankle"

About: Southampton General Hospital / Accident and emergency

I came into A&E on the evening of 5th March 19 with a suspected broken ankle. There was a wait but it was busy so expected. Once seen by triage was taken straight to xray, it was broken. The staff were amazing in A&E/minors very friendly, lovely bedside manner, put me at ease. I ended up needing surgery, was admitted to TAU and the staff there were amazing as well, drs listened to my fear of going under and did all they could to reassure me. Not once was I left in the dark about any of the procedures, options available to me, answered my questions honestly, no sugar coating which was very reassuring. The physio staff made sure I was stable and able to move around safely using the zimmerframe and crutches before allowing me to be discharged. The person who xrayed my ankle was very gentle with me, they knew I was in alot of pain. Although I already knew I'd broken it, I asked just to make sure, on the off chance it may have just been badly sprained, not a chance. The person who put the temporary cast on my ankle talked to me the whole way through, telling me what they were doing next and to have the gas and air. I personally needed to be told what was happening at each point. My jeans had to be cut off which the person apologized about, I said dont worry, its an excuse to go shopping when Im better. I really cannot fault Southampton General, they made the whole experience less traumatic. Now I've many weeks of recovery, following drs orders. Wont be taking short cuts across mud anymore. A big thank you to the staff in A&E, TAU and the surgeons who fixed my ankle.
