"Excellent Compassionate Care on Ward D5"

About: City Hospital / General medicine

I would like to give my warmest thanks to all the clinical staff on Ward D5.

My grandmother was recently admitted onto Ward D5 and all the clinical staff provided her with the kindest and warmth of care during her last few days before she passed away.

They treated her and all her visitors with compassion and kindness.

I would also like to personally thank the City Hospital

Bereavement Service who pulled out all the stops to ensure that we could receive her death certificate to arrange her burial.

The only one activity that could be reviewed is the mortuary service opening hours which currently is between 9:00 - 12:30 and 13:30 - 15:30.

For a large City Acute Hospital we would expect the mortuary service to be open during normal Hospital working hours.

if this could be reviewed and especially once the new Hospital has been built that the mortuary will be open for longer periods.

Dear Raza, Firstly I’d like to express my condolences on your loss. I am at least glad to hear that the care your grandmother experienced at Birmingham City Hospital during her time with us was at the level we strive for and that your experience was also very positive. I will certainly pass on your feedback to both the staff at the Bereavement Service and the team at Ward D5. Thank you also for your helpful comments about the mortuary opening times. Kind regards, Toby Lewis, Chief Executive.
