"Don't think I can trust surgery receptionist / missing bloods."

About: General practices in Fife Victoria Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

It started that my daughter (7 months old at the time) was referred for blood test in VHK hospital children's OPD. We have attended the visit and were reassured that bloods result will be back next day or the latest in two days time.

Don't know ins and outs about GP and Hospital communication but we were told by receptionist in GP practise that we need to phone hospital and find out about results ourselves and were given the phone number. When we were leaving GP doctor approached us and said that bloods went missing and our daughter would be re-referred for another test. I said to doctor what we just have been told and who took the paper with a number and said '' no no I will deal with it''.

As parents we were so confused and disappointed.  We can't complain about doctors in our GP practice but receptionists were rude to us and they seemed to lack knowledge, plus they gave wrong information out to us as patients.

It is hard enough not knowing what's wrong with your baby to get mixed information.

So we attended another appointment for blood test. I felt so sad as my daughter needed to go through it again. Anyway this time bloods results was on a system and when we phoned up for update the receptionist told us that there is no action required and  everything is ok.

We were happy and we left it at that. Few days later we received a letter from GP stating that we need to make an appointment to discuss blood results. So I went to GP and asked what's happening and different/same receptionist (I don't know) stated that our daughter need to see a GP due to her blood abnormalities.

Now my daughter is over 10 months. It has been stressful and long process where it could be prevented if bloods were labelled properly at first time or just simply not lost as we don't know what happened. How come one says different from another.

I'm  really disappointed, upset, angry by the fact that it's constant battle.  Should we trust people or just question their answers every time?? Where is the line?? No wonder people get angry with receptionists at GP practises.
