Admitted by ambulance to A&E by fantastic caring and understanding paramedics as I was in a great deal of pain with bowel obstruction.
On arrival at A&E the paramedics booked me in and I was seated in the waiting area.
After being triaged and bloods taken it was 6 hours before I was called in by a nurse to check my obs and to tell me there were still a few people to be seen before me therefore the wait would continue.
Unfortunately due to my pain and discomfort I could no longer tolerate sitting I had no choice but to discharge myself.
I have a history of bowel obstruction so knew the symptoms.
At home my condition deteriorated and I was re admitted by my GP to ward 20 where my condition was confirmed by x ray and CT scan and admitted to the ward for treatment.
It was very clear that many patients were abusing the department and the staff and it was noy very nice to see and quite frightening.
I didnt feel safe during my visit.
Staff were trying their best under pressure.
The waiting times are appauling and totally unacceptable.
The department is very very understaffed.
More visitors than patients.
"Terrible experience"
