I cannot thank the ICU enough for the professional care I received after A&E had saved my life when an Oedema closed my throat cutting off oxygen and causing my heart to stop.
I would also like to mention how caring the staff were when informing my wife of the possibilities when I was resuscitated.
Also, how quickly they informed her of any progress especially when I came around after a period of induced coma.
The nurses and doctors in the ICU ward were very caring and kept me fully informed of any treatment or tests I was receiving. They also gave me information about the path to recovery and future preventative measures. I feel that the more information that is given to a patient the better their understanding of the condition.
I also was very impressed with the follow up meeting I had with 2 consultants to check on my mental health and to answer any questions I might have.
I have been very lucky as I don’t seem to have PTSD or have lost any mental faculties or memory.
One point that I did raise however was that when awaiting discharge from the Respiratory ward there was rather a long delay in getting my discharge drug pack ready. From the point that I was told I could go, to when I eventually received the pack, I unnecessarily occupied a bed for half a day when it could have been more usefully used for another patient.
