"Excellent, Friendly, Helpful & Reassuring"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency Victoria Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I was recently admitted to Ward 33 at Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy, after being seen by A&E staff for a broken wrist that occurred during a cycling accident.  I have nothing but praise for all members of the teams involved.

Ambulance technicians and paramedics where on the scene promptly and dealt with the situation exceptionally well. The morphine also went down a treat :-).

A&E nurses and doctors where very kind and reassuring at a time when I was on my own waiting for my family to arrive.

All staff on Ward 33 were on hand for any questions or concerns I had and the doctors and surgeons were very clear when explaining what would be involved in the operation.

I’d also like to thank the anaesthetists.  Thankfully they did their job properly and I was asleep throughout the whole operation 😴.  This clearly let the team in the operating theatre get on with their job successfully, as I imagine the last thing they want is a patient waking up on them 😱.

Finally, it was very good to see a trainee nurse given the opportunity to be present during the operation. Speaking to them afterwards, it was great to hear them talk so enthusiastically about witnessing their first procedure in action.

Obviously a visit to Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy is not something I’d like to repeat, but based on my recent experience, its comforting to know they have an excellent team on board to look after you.

Thank you to everyone involved in getting me back on my feet again.

Dear Slapheid

many thanks for taking the time to feedback on your recent hospital experience after your unfortunate cycling accident. Its fantastic to hear such positive comments throughout your whole patient journey. I will be delighted to share this with my team in the A&E. I'm sure my colleagues in the other clinical areas mentioned will be happy to do the same.

Hope you get back to cycling soon

regards

Dr Andy Kinnon

Dear Slapheid

Thankyou very much for taking the time to post feedback in Care Opinion.

It is great that you had such a good experience with your stay in the Victoria Hospital. I am pleased to hear that you were given all the information you required in regards to your injury and your surgery. It is also good that the student nurse was able to attend theatre with you. This allows the student to enhance their knowledge and understanding with the operation and post op care.

Feedback is greatly valued from yourself and others and this will be shared with the team.

I wish you well with your continued recovery and hope you get back to cycling soon in the near future.

Thankyou

Dear Slapheid,

Many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback on CareOpinion. I am sorry to read that you have had this accident and had to undergo some surgery. I do hope that your recovery and rehabilitation is going smoothly and you are on the road to a full recovery. Hopefully you will be back on your bike in no time at all.

I am very pleased however to read about the care and professionalism that was shown to you by all staff in our NHS including our own. As you said you would not like to repeat any of this but having confidence that if things go wrong there are people there that are capable can make all the difference.

I am glad you like the morphine, it can often be a hit or miss. It is great to take away pain but is a very strong analgeasic with the occasional side effect so it is good to read that it worked well.

Thanks again!

Alan
