My partner decided she wanted to give birth at Watford despite us being in the middle of a house move which at first I was a little apprehensive of. As it turned out it was 100% the right decision.
From start to finish the care my partner and baby received was impeccable. It was an induced labour ultimately ending with a C-section and a short visit to special care and I have never seen professionalism on that scale. From the admin staff to the surgeons and everyone in between my partner and daughter were in good hands. The whole time my partner was kept well informed and as comfortable as possible. For those concerned with security it was good to see the security protocols regarding access to and from the wards was adhered to at all times too.
As a father in the wards they don’t really have the facility to pander to your needs but I was allowed to be there at all times which was important to me and it’s not a hotel. Any time they spend looking after the father is time they’re not providing care to the people that really require it so in my opinion the set up was perfect. Whilst a comfier chair might have been nice, if that comes at the detriment of care provided to mothers/babies then it should not even be considered.
Overall, a humbling experience. Professional people doing an incredible job under tough circumstances. Thankyou to everyone there.
