"Awful waiting times."

About: Chard Hospital

Waited for over half an hour, despite there being no patients in the car park, waiting room, or even the nurses room?!

All this just for an appointment in which the nurse told me there was nothing she could do for my issue, and cannot even make a referal to the hospital for me (despite mentioning that I needed urgent nail surgery)

Now I have to wait over a week just for a GP to refer me to a paediatrist instead, which I already know is the care which I need. This means waiting in pain for this whole time!!

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience at Chard Minor Injuries Unit. I am sorry to hear that you are disappointed with the overall experience.

I am going to follow this up with the lead of Chard Minor Injuries Unit (she is currently on leave) and ask her to look into this as soon as she is back. As soon as we have further information, we will post again. I appreciate that the process is frustrating and completely understand why you have posted about your appointment.

I do hope that pain is manageable in the mean time - if you would like to speak to someone before we get back to you, please do not hesitate to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on pals@sompar.nhs.uk or 01278 432022.

Best wishes,

Jenny

Hello,

Many thanks for posting your experience and I'm sorry it was so frustrating.

We have looked into this and unfortunately it seems that you were given the wrong advice. Our MIU staff are able to make a referral to the podiatry service, so I'm very sorry that this didn't happen and that you had to take the trouble of making a GP appointment.

The Podiatry managers will link with the MIU managers to make sure this is fed back to the whole team, so that this doesn't happen to someone else.

I am very sorry that you had a frustrating experience but thank you for raising this, as it has made us aware of an area where we need to improve our training and awareness, which will improve our service for the next patient who has this problem.

If we can do any more to help then please get in touch with me via lucy.nicholls@sompar.nhs.uk or mobile 079 202 666 92 and we can help sort out your referral for you, if this has not already been done.

Thank you again for taking the time to feed back to us.

LUCY
