"Broken Both Feet 🤐"

About: Ayrshire Central Hospital / Chiropody/Podiatry Ayrshire Central Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

Broke my right foot in June 18.  Was diagnosed as muscle & tendon damage and would heal.  Broke my left foot in Oct 18 and because of this actually found out that my right foot had been misdiagnosed in June, it was actually broken but left untreated and led to another break in the foot. Attended fracture clinic, was given moon boot for left foot, told I may need pins n plates in it and here we are today!  After going to my GP several times in pain, mobility problems and getting more x-rays carried out....my feet are worse than they were....7 months down the line!!!! Urgent referral sent, after 2 wks of hearing nothing, I phoned, my app downgraded to routine app.  Went to A&E 2 weeks ago, attended fracture clinic 1 week ago....NOW, things are moving.

Through the whole rigmarole I have felt like Iā€™ve been cast aside and I do not matter! My feelings, my severe chronic pain, my life and my body are unimportant!  If I hadnā€™t been going to my GP for them to set eyes on how my feet are and if I hadnā€™t called the fracture clinic to find out about my urgent appointment being downgraded then I still wouldnā€™t know. If I hadnā€™t gone to sit in A&E for 3 hours for A very rude and abrupt Doctor to firstly ask me what is it you think we can do for you?? We donā€™t have orthopaedics! there is nothing we can do for you apart from give you a sooner appointment

I have Mental Health Problems and the way this has made me feel, has added to them.

Dear Skmoskmo212,

It sounds like you have had a very difficult 7 months. I am sorry that you did not have a good experience in A&E 2 weeks ago. We certainly do not wish anyone to feel as though they do not matter. I am glad that our colleagues in the fracture clinic are now progressing things and hopefully you will now receive the treatment you need.

It sounds like there are several areas where we could do better. I wonder whether you would like me to look into this further for you? If you are able could you send me your name and date of birth to Claire.gilroy@nhs.net? Alternatively, you could speak with Eunice Goodwin our Patient Feedback Manager on 01563 826222. She will be back in the office on Monday.

I wish you a speedy recovery.

Claire
