"Neurology unit, Glasgow"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Neurosurgery (Ward 64 – 66)

(as a relative),

My mother recently suffered a brain haemorrhage from a ruptured aneurysm & had to be transferred to the neurology department in QEUH, Glasgow, as an emergency. We were told before she left our local hospital that the bleed was sizeable and life threatening, so you can imagine our distress when we arrived in Glasgow to see mum and find out what was going to happen next. From the minute we arrived, the intensive care nurses & doctors took time to talk to us, explain all the monitors, made sure we understood her treatment plan and gave us opportunities to ask questions. Mum underwent many scans, procedures & surgeries throughout her stay in QEUH, and was a patient of ITU, HDU & Ward 63. Her treatment throughout was excellent, and I was heartened to see the wonderful care given by the nursing staff, particularly in regards to changing her position & mouthcare. She mostly slept but this did not deter the nurses from chattering away to her during interactions, to be rewarded with an occasional grunt or a rare smile. She has recently been transferred back to our local hospital for rehabilitation and still has a long road in front of her, but I am so so grateful to everyone that helped be part of her journey back to us. My heartfelt thanks to not only the medical & nursing staff, but to the porters, housekeepers, clerical staff, the physios, dietitians, radiologists... Everyone who makes up our fabulous NHS team.

Dear Florence,

Thank you for taking the time to post this valuable feedback. I was sorry to read of your mum’s recent brain haemorrhage and appreciate what a worrying time this must have been for you.

I will share your feedback about excellent nursing care to the neuroscience teams who will be pleased to know how much their care and attention meant to you as a family during a difficult time.

I wish your mum best wishes for her continued rehabilitation.

Regards

Elaine Burt
