In September 2018 I visited A & E at Hairmyres Hospital. I waited a while and started to feel ill with diarrhoea which was all blood (the reason I was there). My BP is normally on the low side and I was passing out with the loss of blood. I was admitted and kept in for 6 days because the diverticulitis was severe and the loss of blood requiring three transfusions over a period of days.
I was in several wards including surgical because the surgeon thought I may need an operation on my bowel. Following scans and colonoscopy the bleeding stopped and I was allowed home. Without exception, the care I received was outstanding from surgeons, doctors and nursing staff. I hadn't been in hospital before for any length of time and I was so impressed with the dedication and hard work particularly by the nursing staff. The long hours of work - 12 hour shifts - and attention to detail impressed me so much. I'm sorry it has taken me so long to write this but my recovery took some time and the deaths of 2 very close friends happened in October and November 2018. Thank you NHS particularly nurses for magnificent work without complaint no matter how messy the situation. They are our earthly angels.
