"Attending a&e"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital / Accident and emergency Medway Maritime Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics Queen Victoria Hospital (East Grinstead) / General medicine

(as a service user),

I injured my hand when I fell. I attended A&E on Sunday at 2pm, seen at 5. My little finger was placed in a splinter and I was told I'd need an operation and I was referred to East Grinstead. I was seen in East Grinstead today and was told I did not need  an operation, the X-rays were not good enough, so they took more,, they told me that the splint  Medway put on could have actually made it worse as I needed movement as I could lose  the dexterity. I obliviously took time off work which was not needed and was given incorrect treatment.

What was good?

1. Free water

2. Football on in waiting room for my partner.

Thank you for your comments. The initial treatment provided by our Emergency Department team would have been with a view to you requiring a specialist opinion at East Grinstead. If you would like to speak to a matron to learn more about the care that was provided to you please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) and they will be happy to arrange this.

PALS can be contacted on: medwayft.pals@nhs.net or 01634 825004

Kindest regards,

The Patient Experience Team
