"Very poor service"

About: Sixways Clinic

I have always been reasonably satisfied with this surgery, despite never being able to get an appointment when I needed one (emergency appointments excepted), on the understanding that all surgeries are under this type of resource pressure. But after having a severe injury which was dealt with at Cheltenham A&E, I rang the surgery to request an appointment for the wound to be redressed (as advised by A&E staff) and was told 'no' in no uncertain terms. I was told this wasn't something they could offer me as there were no nurses in the practice and no appointments available. I was left wondering what to do with the wound. I was told to go back to A&E to have it redressed. It is quite obvious that this GP surgery is using A&E as an extension of their own surgery where they think they can offload patients. A&E is for real emergencies (see posters in A&E waiting rooms) and not there to take up the slack of GP surgeries.

I am sorry that you are unhappy with the service provided by the practice. The situation was fully investigated by both NHS England Complaints and the practice. NHS England have confirmed that GP practices are not contracted to provide follow up appointments for A&E and that the practice advice to return to A&E for the follow up was appropriate.

I hope that the response to your complaint has clarified this situation fully

Kind Regards

Nicola Wright

Practice manager
