"Waiting in pain"

About: Dundee Dental Hospital / Dental Services

(as the patient),

I have now been waiting double the waiting time just for a letter for my appointment. I was told 12 weeks and this is now the 24th week with no word of an appointment. I have phoned twice as I am in a lot of pain (waiting to get 2 of my wisdom teeth removed) and nobody can help me. The only response I get is ‘we don’t know how long the waiting list is but we’re full for the next 2 months at least. I’m now having to pay for treatment at my own dental surgery due to problems with these wisdom teeth. I don’t feel like I should be paying for this considering the teeth should be really be out by now. I have no idea when I will be getting these removed but I’ve never wanted to pull my own teeth out more than I do now because the pain is too much! !

I am really sorry that you are in pain and have been waiting so long to have your wisdom teeth removed. I am also really sorry for the delay in responding to your post on Care Opinion.

Unfortunately we do currently have very long waiting lists for treatment. The reason for this is that we are a relatively small team with a very high throughput of patients. I appreciate it is distressing to be in pain for so long. Your dentist will be able to support you in managing your pain. Please be assured that we are working to try and reduce the waiting times for patients.

Regards
