About: Princess Royal University Hospital (Orpington)

I went to A&E Friday evening with escrutiating pain in my lower right side I was in A&E for 10 hours however I can’t fault the staff in the A&E as they were very busy and short staffed for the amount of people. However I was taken to be put in a bay to make me more comfortable as I was in a lot of pain and waiting to be taken to a ward and to have a cannula put in however after 3 nurses and 11 unsuccessful attempts they said it would be done in the ward. Eventually at 4am I was taken up to the ward where I still wasn’t given any pain relief or fluids after not drinking all day due to nausea. At 7:30am in the morning I finally had a canula put in and fluids and Iv tramadol the day nurses were lovely. I then saw the doctor who said for me to go and have a ct scan however he had requested a ct and ultrasound don’t have the ultrasound. At 1pm a nurse told me the porters would be up at 4pm to take me down. At 3:45 2 porters come up and said they were taking me to ultrasound and when I told them what the doctor said they went to check they come back and said they would be back at 4pm, however they never returned. At around 8pm the doctors came round and one of the doctors proceeded to shout at me alongside 3 other staff members I think doctors and when I didn’t respond as I was too unwell he had a go at my nan and said he would rebook for tomorrow but said “you may get you may not get it’s the weekend you’d be so lucky” and left so I continued on painkillers and antisickness and fluids and was on free fluids but couldn’t drink due to nausea. The next day I had an ultrasound and it was clear so despite being in pain still and still not eating and drinking I was told I would be discharged so my nan argues it as I wasn’t listened to and the following day I had a ct scan and was taken off fluids and when I did try to drink I was actually gagging it wasn’t till 1am the gollowing morning I was put back on fluids and pain relief. Then at 7:40 the doctors cane round even though it had been agreed they would wait till my aunt got there as I wasn’t able to take the information in due to being really drowsy as a result of pain killers and due to the fact I wasn’t listened to. The doctor told me I was a liar as I have changed the location of my pain which I hadn’t and my mum dad nan and aunt had all been there at different times when doctors where there to examine me and the pain was in the same place she told me I had an inflamed stomach and I was fine to go home. However I was told previously it was gynae when I questioned this she told me that I did have a cyst but that was nothing to do with it as the pain wasn’t on my right side which from the beginning I had said it was so she said that a gynaecologist would come and see me. I was left in tears as I was had a go at by this doctor. The gynae doctor was amazing and explained that they would investigate further as outpatient. I was discharged still not eating or drinking and vomiting bile in the discharge loung

I was very sorry to hear about the distressing experience that you and your Nan had at the Princess Royal.

If you would like to talk the issues you have raised through with a member of staff, please contact me directly email: jessica.bush@nhs.net I know that staff would wish to follow this up.
