I was take to COCH
A&E department by ambulance after a fall when I dislocated my shoulder. I had already waited 2 hours for the ambulance which eventually came from Crew. I live in Ellesmere Port. The crew asked for me to be fast tracked as I was in excruciating pain. The accident occurred approx 4 pm I arrived at hospital approx 6.45 pm. I was put to wait outside xray and assumed was waiting for an xray. After an hour I asked a passing radiologist how long would I be. She said to wait another 30 minutes then ask again. This I did to another radiologist. She checked and said I wasn't on the system. She referred it to a nurse. Nothing happened. One person in scrubs laughed because I had only been waiting an hour! I waited until 10.30pm when I was crying with pain and asked a passing porter to get a nurse as there was nobody in the department. I had been there nearly 4 hours and not one person had approached me. A doctor arrived, checked my shoulder then did the necessary on the computer for me to be xrayed. A nurse then gave me co-codamol as I'd not had any pain relief since 6 pm. I was duly xrayed then sent to a waiting area to wait until after 1 am until a doctor arrived to put the shoulder back in. After another 30 minute wait I was taken to xray again. I then waited another hour and 45 minutes. At 3.45am I went to see what the delay was and was given a letter to say the xray would be seen by an orthopaedic doctor in a couple of days. So why did I wait so long to be discharged. I waited nearly 13 hours for ambulance and treatment and was in extreme pain all that time. It may have been even longer if I hadn't asked to see a doctor at 10.30pm. A very unsatisfactory service. I am 73 years old. If this is how they treat old people God help us all
