"3 hour wait in Ophthalmic out patients totaly..."

About: Royal Shrewsbury Hospital

Attended an appointment for 3.10 pm, department seemed a bit busy, reception staff were hardly interested in engaging although appeared to have time to talk amongst themselves 4+

behind counter.

Initial tests conducted very efficiently and by 3.15pm.

Told to sit and wait for consultant, finally seen by consultant at 5.50pm.

At no time did any staff member indicate there may be a delay, also on a number of occasions consultants wondering around asking staff who was next.

A significant number of the patients at this clinic were elderly and needed carers, many were waiting 2 hrs plus. One diabetic patient who had been waiting nearly 3 hours appeared to suffer a hypo and needed to have a sugary drink brought.

This is third world quality service and not a result of lack of cash but terrible attitude.

I am in the process of escalating this complaint within the NHS with whom deal professionally

Good afternoon,

Thank you for sharing your comments with us.

I am sorry to hear of the poor experience you encountered on that day in the Ophthalmology Clinic.

I am glad you have raised this as a formal complaint as this allows us the opportunity to fully investigate your concerns, through a formal process and allows us to learn lessons as a result of the investigation.

Kind Regards.

Patient Experience Team
