"Care within RHC day surgery 1b"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Day surgery

(as a parent/guardian),

We arrived with my 7 year old daughter who has Aspergers she was quite anxious but with pre-op before appt she new what to expect.  We were given permission to bring my daughter at 12pm instead of 11am which did help with her not waiting around to long.

On arrival she was given a single room which my daughter was extremely pleased with as she’s not great with busy noisy places.

We were 1st on list so everything went great no waiting around, well informed of what was happening and doctors all came and explained and listened to my daughters concerns.

Staff were fantastic keep my daughter very calm n everything so relaxed when she struggles with extreme anxiety.

After surgery she was brought back to single room where she slept a little soon awake she was offered food.

All in she had great experience for child who struggles to leave house daily was made to feel relaxed, kept informed of what was happening, nothing was to much staff went out there way to help no matter what was asked.

I just want to say thank you to all staff in 1b a very stressful day that my daughter was dreading was actually very relaxed With help great staff. Credit to nhs.

Dear Loo

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback on Care Opinion.

Your feedback highlights the importance of really listening to our patients and families and being able to adapt how we do things to provide the best care possible.

It is great to hear that your wee girl coped so well with coming into Day Surgery and having her procedure. The team will be delighted to read your kind feedback and we will ensure that this is passed on to them.

I hope your daughter is doing well and is recovering from her surgery.

Best wishes

Jen

Dear Loo

It was great to read your feedback and it is a lovely example of staff working with patients and families to understand and meet their individual needs. We would love to use your story as an example of good practice and the impact it has on patients and their families. I wonder if you would mind getting in touch with me directly to discuss ways we could do this? You can contact me at Pamela.mcgoldrick@ggc.scot.nhs.uk and at 07944345615

Best wishes

Pam
