"early stages of fertility treatment"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Gynaecology Pilgrim Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

So I am an overweight 36 year old who suffered my first ever miscarriage a year ago. Myself and my husband work and have contributed with NI for 20 years. We have never needed to use the NHS and we aren't the type of people to go to the Dr’s for a cold etc. So when we realised we may need some help getting pregnant we didn't think we would have any issues.

We have been trying for 3 years now and I first went to Boston as it was quicker to get an appointment than Lincoln, however the journey was 2hrs round trip. I had blood tests and my husband had sent his sample off and all was looking good, the consultant did say about my BMI however we continued with the tests and I had an ultrasound to check for the ovaries and I have two, so another ✅.

I was about to go for the lap and dye test when I fell pregnant subsequently I miscarried at 6 weeks and after this I felt like as I had got pregnant I may not need to see the consultant. We tried again March to Sept and nothing happened at this point I went to my local GP to see if I could change to Lincoln as it was closer and more practical. I got a call from the receptionist at the surgery a few days later to say I never met the requirements to go to Lincoln unfortunately for me I would have had to endure 3 miscarriages!

so I pushed this and after 12 weeks I had an appointment for Lincoln for in a further 4 weeks, didn't care about the timescales I just thought brilliant we are back on track. We arrived at the hospital 30 mins early our appointment was for 9am at this point I got weighed and measured again and then at 9. 30 a trainer consultant came and we discussed the questions that were already discussed back in boston so I reiterated all of this information again even though this process had already been completed.

We then waited a further 10 mins til we saw the actual consultant which at the beginning was really helpful and was going to get the tests sorted that day, we confirmed that my husband was going to away for several months at this point the consultant went out and came back in at this point said it would be best to hold off tests til the bmi is lower 1% is all I have to lose! ! and come back in 4 months. we couldnt understand why we couldnt start the tests now with me. The consultant said alot of things and again we just felt she pushed us away and didnt want to help us, I am turning 37 within those 4 months and im still no further forward. I wish I could cancel my national insurance payments and go private because I would get somewhere with them. But why should I dont I deserve the treatment? I felt worthless because of the BMI and I felt like they closed the door on me when I needed them the most
