My dad spent a few weeks in Crosshouse Hospital following a UTI which caused him some confusion and he experienced a steady decline. He was in Stage 4 kidney failure and had been for some while. It was a difficult time for him to be in hospital as July had record high temperatures and the staff worked hard to keep him and the other patients cool, bringing them ice lollies and iced water.
He got home for a few days mid-July but sadly his confusion and increased dehydration saw him re-admitted to hospital a week later. His kidney function continued to decline and although an ambulance took him to Ayr (and HDU there) we were glad when he was transferred to Crosshouse where he spent his last few days in the Renal HDU.
The staff were so kind and caring and the reason I am writing this now, six months later, is that I feel ready to celebrate how well they treated us and him in his last few days. He passed away there.
We raised money for the room for relatives.
