I has been experiencing depression and low self-esteem over several years. I finally consulted my GP in March 2018 who prescribed me ante-depressants and referred me to my local IAPTS. I took part in a comprehensive telephone assessment which concluded that I was experiencing depression and could benefit from CBT. I stopped taking the ante-depressants as they made me feel more withdrawn.
I was initially offered group sessions because there was a long waiting list for individual therapists but I preferred to wait for this which began last October.
I had the full twelve sessions which ended only yesterday.
I found my therapist to be extremely professional and consistant throughout. She was empathic, organised and enabling. She provided a clear structure on how to apply CBT to my issues of low self-esteem and depression. I felt very relaxed and at ease when talking to her and she facilitated an atmosphere of trust and empathy. She was not rigged in her approach whist still applying the concepts of the therapy and I enjoyed completing weekly tasks which encouraged me to assess my difficulties through thoughts and behaviour. We also found time for humour which enhanced my experience and allowed me to feel relaxed and engaged. I feel far less depressed and anxious and confident to apply the process/tools used in CBT to address my difficulties in the future.
I would highly recommend my therapist and happily give her name if her organisation requested it.
"CBT"
