I appreciate the monster task that a&e is. I appreciate how busy the department can be. I understand you are trying and have limits. It just doesn’t make me feel any better when I am in the waiting area for 4hours in agony. When I went back through to triage and asked if I could have some painkillers I get told to go somewhere I couldn’t find. Something needs to change. You need to come up with plan 455. It is not working.
I hate to be negative as I have a lot of respect for the nhs, really small things can make a horrible time even worse, for example as I was being triaged I watched a nurse flirting with a paramedic. It makes it hard for me to be patient for 4 hours when there’s time for a food 10-15min flirt off. Imagine being in agony, pain scale of 8/10, having a ecg done. Bloods done all whilst watching a nurse asking the paramedic if he is almost finished his shift and how bad night shifts are etc it was so disrespectful.
We all need to have fun at work and we are all human but if you’re as busy as you say then surely there’s a time and a place? Whilst we are in pain in the waiting area feeling insecure and worried your reception staff are eating full bacon barmcakes in full view whilst we are in the waiting area for hours.
It’s just basic respect and to a point basic customer service, you would walk in Asda to find the staff on customer service eating a pasty.
Small things matter to people.
