"Breathing troubles"

About: Queen Elizabeth I I Hospital (Welwyn Garden City)

I arrived at the hospital struggling to breath due to an asthma attack, I went straight up to the desk telling them my chest was tight and I was going lighted headed to be told to ‘go the the back of the line’

Thankfully the member of the public infront of me could see I was really struggling to breath and allowed me to go before him to be seen!

I was then on my own in a side room for 15 minutes still not being able to breath during this time I called for HELP 3 times as I couldn’t get up and get out of the room! Luckily my partner arrived and helped me. After a nebuliser my partner asked if I need to see a GP or go home to rest as I was shattered - to be given the very rude and sarcastic response of

‘we are NOT your GP surgery, you’ve seen how busy the waiting room is’

I understand you’re short staffed and budgets are being cut all the time - but in the state I was a smile and reassurance wouldn’t have gone a miss!!

Thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear that you were unhappy with your experience of the urgent care centre at the New QEII and we will be sharing your feedback with the senior team there. If you haven't done so already, we would recommend getting in touch with our complaints service, as they will be able to look into what happened fully for you: https://www.enherts-tr.nhs.uk/patients-visitors/patient-surveys/concerns-and-complaints/
