My sister was transferred from RIE A+E to DCN-HDU following SAH (Subarachnoid hemorrhage) due to a ruptured aneurysm just after New Year. Firstly, thank you to all A+E staff involved in my sister care for assessing her case quickly and transferring her to DCN-HDU immediately.
My family and I cannot praise all neurosurgical nd nursing staff in DCN-HDU and Ward33 enough. From the very first minute after her admission until the day of her transfer to Astley Ainslie Hospital she received an exceptionally high level of care. We found all nurses and clinical support workers involved in my sister's care very caring, committed and passionate about their duties. Despite working in a very busy and demanding hospital environment, they were able to deliver wonderful and exceptional patient-centred care.
I was amazed to see nursing staff to be attentive and responding quickly to my sister's needs and buzzer calls. Also, thank you for providing her "boxer gloves" and sensory blankets, so simple and effective way to calm her down/reduce her anxiety and drive her attention away from drips and insertion lines.
I am also grateful for reassuring me as a family member, for showing immense compassion and understanding and for answering all my questions related to SAH, the process of recovery in this so difficult time and for directing me and family to charities called "Headway" and "Vocal" for further support. Additionally, thank you for making my mother, who rushed from abroad to be beside my sister's bed, comfortable.
My sister is now at the beginning of her journey of recovery. She wouldn't be here with us today without you all. Thank you all. You do a great job
"Exceptionally high level of care"
