"Healthy and Active Rehabilitation Programme - Ayr"

About: Physiotherapy - South Ayrshire

(as the patient),

I was referred on to the HARP programme by the Physiotherapy Dept. at Ayr hospital. I was in hospital for a number of months because of a serious infection in my spine which resulted in me being bed-bound for most of my stay. As a result, I lost a huge amount of muscle mass in my legs, arms and chest and left me with mobility problems.

I started exercising at home to try and build up my muscles but keeping the motivation going proved difficult. Starting the HARP programme has been extremely beneficial, not only for the motivation, but also for the structured regime. Being part of a group with varying degrees of fitness is also a great help.
Being monitored  by the staff is very reassuring, not only for the structure of the class but knowing there is a nurse and physiotherapists there if anyone requires any assistance. I felt a bit unwell at the class a couple of weeks ago and can't thank the staff enough for the professional caring way I was attended.

I believe this programme is very beneficial to a large amount of people with a range of conditions and would recommend anyone with the opportunity to attend to get on it.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Hiram,

Thank you for such a lovely post. I know the team will be delighted to see this 'glowing report' of the HARP programme. I am sure it will also help to encourage others who may be sceptical about how beneficial it can be, or indeed, how friendly and reassuring.

I am sorry you had such a serious condition but it is heart warming to hear you are on the mend, in part, due to the HARP programme.

I wish you all the best on your onward recovery.

Eunice
