What I liked

From admission at 10am one day in March nursing staff and the Receiving Doctor in A&E and the MAU were clearly working under great pressure but always kept me reassured and managed my assessment diligently and with kindness..

I was seen by the duty consultant at around 8pm. They spent some time explaining my results and proposed care plan. I was greatly reassured and was discharged about 8.30pm with an appointment to return for further tests two days later

What could be improved

Due to bed shortages I was twice placed in beds in mixed sex bays during the initial assessment period.

On returning to the clinic by appointment, the Dr was not in attendance. Nursing staff spent over 2 hrs trying to find them.

I saw the Dr after my tests; they did not follow the care plan they had earlier offered, no reason was given.

I requested medication for the symptoms they had previously identified and voiced concerns over the length of time I suffered their debilitating effects. The Dr chose to ignore them and not to prescribe anything.

Anything else?

I was delighted at the care I received in A&E and MAU. All staff were clearly working under great pressure but never let that affect my care.

I was confused and worried that the Dr did not follow the plan they earlier proposed.

When I asked for specific help and reassurance, this was ignored.

I felt patronised and that my pain and worry were not considered important.
