My husband recently died of bowel cancer with spread to his liver, unfortunately the cycle of chemotherapy he has from August to November did not stop the spread and we were cared for at home until his death at the end of January. I have to say that that the care he received from the District nursing team headed by Katrina and especially Paula was exemplary, they could not have been more reliable, informed or kind to my husband or me. I am so grateful to them for making D's end of life as good as it could have been.
Special thanks to his excellent GP Dr Winkler and the rest of the GPS and staff in the practice, who cared so kindly and professionally for my husband, Dr Winkler was interested in our lives and how we were coping with the daily changes as the disease spread, with the main aim of making everything as comfortable and acceptable as he could.
Kendall from Ayrshire Hospice applied her great knowledge and kind approach making herself available at any time we needed her special brand of support.
The McMillan nurses at the hospital, Gill and Tracy were efficient and kind and always there, supporting us during appointments at Crosshouse and Ayr hospital. They ALWAYS returned our calls.
Did I miss anyone? If so please call round for a jar of homemade marmalade!
