"These inspirational ladies"

About: Croydon University Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

I contacted the Crocus team when I was 28 weeks pregnant to enquire about home birth as I was undecided. I was quickly allocated Kat as our primary Midwife. Once we met Kat it was an easy decision to have a home birth. Before making this decision I had not seen the same Midwife twice which left me feeling unsupported and unsure what to expect. Having a dedicated Midwife remedied this and I was able to contact Kat any time to discuss any concerns – It’s a really personal and supportive service.

Even though I transferred to the hospital during labour, Kat still came to be with us later that day once she had finished her scheduled appointments. Even though I could not complain about the brilliant care I was receiving at that time, seeing a familiar and trusted face was incredibly reassuring and comforting. Kat stayed with us offering support not just to me, but my husband and mum also. She helped us understand what happening at every stage, particularly in theatre where I had a c-section.

During my time in hospital, Lucy also looked after us and gave me invaluable support when I needed it and showed my family and me great warmth and kindness.

The Crocus team are an efficient, trustworthy brilliant team of Midwives who take the time to provide the care and support that you need when you need it.

Kat and Scarlett continued my postnatal care at home. Having the support of these 2 amazing, lovely ladies in the days following the birth of my son was precious. Kat in particular was supportive, compassionate and empowering throughout my care, and a rock for me and my family during labour. Even though I didn’t get a chance to meet Scarlett (my second Midwife) before I had my baby, I knew we were in safe hands with her during my postnatal care. She was very informative and easily contactable.

It is incredible to think that these inspirational ladies are busy caring for lots of women, yet they still manage to take the time and effort to make you feel special, supported and completely cared for.

Thank you for taking the time to provide such wonderful feedback about the Crocus Home Birth Team. All of the midwives recognise the importance of building a trusting relationship with the women that they provide care to!! Not only does it provide them with huge job satisfaction but as you have already identified the key benefits that continuity of carer bring for women too!

I shall forward your email to the Crocus team!

Congratulations and please spread the word about the benefits of home-birth!

Thank you again!

Georgina Short, Consultant Midwife and Midwifery Manager to the Community and Birth Centre
