"Appointment letter"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / General Surgery

(as a service user),

I had a notification letter for  a preoperative assessment appointment where it includes a sentence to please bring a sample of urine, oh and this letter came a fortnight before I received a 'Notification of Addition to the General Surgery Waiting List'.

Anyway after sourcing a sample bottle for the urine from my GP practise I duly filled said bottle and took it with me to the assessment. Half way through the assessment when you are pretty much answering the same questions  and providing the same answers and the nurse is writing it all down though they told me that slowly but surely they are moving to filling this information on an online form.

As I said half way through I asked if they wanted the urine sample and was told nope, they do not need that anymore, but it is required as per the letter, to which the nurse replied that they had been trying to get the letter changed for 8 months without success.

I'm sure this will be a template letter and easily changed.  Of course should you need to include the sentence for a particular patient well how about two template letters, one with the sentence and one without. 8 months and still not done, really NHS Lothian?

Dear MrFraggle

Thank you very much for sharing your feedback with us following your recent preoperative assessment. I am sorry to hear that you were asked to bring a urine sample to this appointment only to be told by the staff that this was not necessary.

I know the team have recently been looking to amend some of these letters and your feedback has been shared with senior colleagues in the organisation, making them aware of your experiences and this unnecessary request for a urine sample.

I would like to apologise for your inconvenience and I do hope your surgery goes well.

Kind regards

Jeannette
