"Early pregnancy unit F16"

About: Wythenshawe Hospital

I visited the early pregnancy unit in January after being referred by my GP after bleeding and producing a product over the weekend. Nor me, my partner or my GP knew what the product was but we was suspicious of miscarriage. A pregnancy test came back negative but my GP was still concerned so referred me to the EPU. We met a nurse at the EPU who was very hostile and unsympathetic towards me and my partner and said many times “I don’t know why you’ve come here you are not pregnant” at this moment in time none of us knew what was going on but me and my partner were very worried and nervous. I tried to explain my story to the nurse and show her pictures of the product who replied hastily “I don’t need to see it”.

At this point I became very emotional and angry as I felt like I was not getting any answers and being past from pillar to post. She told me to go wait in the main waiting area. Next time she called me into the room she didn’t even call my name out, she just said “you can come back in now”. When in the room she was trying to contact the on call gynaecologist, still at this point we didn’t know what was going on however the nurse was on the computer in front of me and my partner filling out a form for me to have removal of miscarriage. This hadn’t been mentioned once to us nor explained, we both found this very distressing and unprofessional. Once again she asked us to wait in the waiting area for my blood test results, which could take a few hours. When the result came back she told us the results in the waiting area in front of other patients. Very unprofessional once again. Later on I saw the on call gynaecologist who was extremely helpful and caring. She helped turn around my experience at Wythenshawe and assured me that it was not a miscarriage and gave information to me and my partner which we was very grateful for.

Overall my experience at Wythenshawe was mixed, the nurse was extremely unhelpful, rude and put me and my partner through a lot of unnecessary stress.
