"Wonderful people at St Luke's"

Last year I had an operation which was followed by radiotherapy treatment which left me in a lot of pain and feeling very low.

I am 89 and felt frightened about what would happen, especially as I have nursed a number of relatives through cancer. Places like St Luke's did not exist at that time.

St Luke's provided care when I was having the radiotherapy treatment, helping with the dreadful pain. I have since weaned myself off the morphine and, with help from Jackie, have gained strength and positivity. 

Jackie also helped me to think more positively about my life when everything seemed so bleak. Jackie now comes to see me once a fortnight to make sure I am managing, talk about how I am feeling, any pain is identified so something can be done about it.

I also go to Woodgrange Centre once a week, I really look forward to this as I see lots of people, have physiotherapy and am able to take part in different activities such as quizzes, sing-a-longs. the physiotherapy has made such a difference!  They gave me exercises to do which have made my legs stronger, I feel more confident about getting around. It was a small but pleasurable achievement getting out to the letterbox to post a letter on my own.

All the staff at St Lukes are wonderful and deserve all the praise they get, the cleaners, the carers....all of them. After the operation I felt like a very old person, I feel ten years younger with the help and support St Luke's have given me. I cannot praise them enough.
