My husband was diagnosed and treated for stomach cancer four years ago.
Last year this returned and he was given a terminal diagnosis. When first diagnosed we badly wanted to ensure continuity of care and asked one of the senior GPs to provide this.
He promised that he and any of his colleagues would be aware of my husband's needs and certainly provide the necessary support.
In fact on all but two occasions we were able to see this same GP, who provided patient, compassionate and well-informed support throughout.his illness, liaising with the hospital and helping to integrate his care with other medical networks so he was nursed at home until he died. In the last weeks, a regular home visit by this GP became a high spot of his life and it was superb that this same GP was the one who finally verified his death. The care and concern shown by all the staff of this practice made a horrendous situation bearable and I have great confidence in recommending them to others.
