"Excellent care"

About: St James's University Hospital

What I liked

I had a three month stay on Ward 62 from November 2011 to January 2012

The caring attitude and commitment of the Nursing staff. They were patient, professional but friendly. The medical staff were respectful and took time to address my concerns.

What could be improved

Nursing staff were under extreme pressure due to the ratio of staff to patients.

The work load of a busy surgical ward needs to be addressed and staff employed accordingly.

There were times when I really dont know how they coped toeven offer basic nursing care when they were so busy but they did . Also the turn round from night duty to day duty must have led to a feeling of "jet lag"

All it would take is a small increase of staff.

Anything else?

The food is atrocious

Frozen inedible sandwiches

Grey fish Yellow potato croquettes

Luckily I had family to bring in food

The food is not condusive to getting better and after three months monotonous

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Patient Opinion. I was pleased to hear that the nursing staff that looked after you were so caring and respectful.

I will make sure that I pass on your compliments to the nursing staff, as well as your comments about the food and pressure on staff to the Patient Experience Manager at the hospital.
