"Found my doctor unhelpful when needing a prescription"

About: Bexley Care Trust Darent Valley Hospital / General medicine

(as the patient),

I went to see my consultant for a 6 wk check after having surgery for a posterior and anterior prolapse.

At my appt it was obvious I was suffering from a chest infection. My consultant asked his assistant to write a prescription for antibiotics and codeine linctus. When I went to my chemist to have the meds made up she said she couldn't as the doc hadn't put what mg I needed, she said to visit my GP surgery and ask my doc to correct it.

I went to my own surgery and my doctor's partner spoke to me, I explained what I needed. He flatly refused to alter or give me a new prescription, I explained I needed the linctus as my coughing could affect my surgery, he still refused and told me to take night nurse.

I went back to the chemist and explained the doctor would not help me, she said maybe it's because this linctus is sometimes abused by drug addicts. I was horrified as I am a grandmother who doesn't even smoke! This doctor doesn't know me...but I have been a patient at that surgery for over 30 years.

I am so unhappy that I am considering changing my doctors now.

Thank you for your comments and we apologise for the delay in responding.

Unfortunately there was a slight error with your original prescriptions which your GP then refused to change or reissue. If in future such an incident occurs again, please come back to us as we may be able to assist you.
