I was being induced due to high blood pressure - I was 40 weeks pregnant. I was taken into hospital in November. I was left having contractions and in pain as there was not enough staff to carry out the induction process. I was given my first gel and advised someone would come back 6 hours later to give me my second gel to help bring on labour. The midwife returned 6 hours later and advised me she would not be doing it as there were no staff in the labour ward. This was an extremely difficult time for me and I felt failed by the NHS, however I appreciated the struggles the staff faced. I was extremely upset and fed up. All the staff were apologetic and sympathetic towards me expect one midwife who made me feel terrible. They opened my curtain and could see I was visibly upset but choose to ignore that and advise me that it was not their job to pick up my dirty hankies- I must have dropped them through the night when I was upset about the full situation. I feel failed by the NHS and fortunately for me my baby was born safely via emergency section but I feel things could easily have been a lot different. A member of staff also refused to come and speak to me to discuss the situation as I was worried about the risks posed to my baby.
