"My experience at Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield"

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

I was admitted to P1 ward at the Royal Hallamshire for an overnight stay in order to have a barium enema the following day. The nursing staff were all very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I cannot praise them enough. The ward was nice and had a very relaxed atmosphere

The following day I was taken to x-ray. The porter who took me from the ward was very nice and chatted to me as we went. I was taken in to where I was going to have the barium enema. The staff were very helpful and talked me through each stage of what was going to happen for the barium enema and said at any time I was not happy or the test became too uncomfortable to let them know which was very reassuring.

I think hospitals get very bad press. Patients are only too often ready to complain but fail to acknowlege the good treatment they have received. I think its important when patients are not happy with treatment etc, hospitals staff are made aware of this. I feel it is very important or otherwise how are things going to be put right. if nobody knows there were/are problems. Equally I feel when patients receive good treatment hospital staff should also be made aware of this and the staff involved are told. This does help with morale
