I attended A&E in the midst of a mental health crisis and suicide attempt. They placed me in Red Bay. A&E can be one of my triggers and can increase my agitation immensely. This happened on this admission. I was a complete nightmare. There was a desperation to leave. There had been several attempts to leave and subsequent chase by the Red Bay staff. Considering how horrendous I was, all of the team were excellent. They remained friendly, compassionate, patient and supportive. They did not deserve to deal with my actions but my memory was that they were all excellent in coping with me. I'm sure they were glad once I'd been transferred to another ward but up until that point they did not treat me any differently and continued being understanding even when my actions were not always appropriate. The team on that night should be thanked for providing exceptional care throughout a challenging situation.
