My daughter fractured her thumb and I took her to the local minor injuries unit. However, they turned us away due to lack of x-ray and told us to go to Ninewells A& E instead. The staff at A& E were wonderful, praising us for trying minor injuries first. We had to wait a long time, five hours altogether, but the staff were very nice and pleasant, we got her thumb x-rayd, splint on, x-rayd again to make sure it's all correctly aligned, and sent off with an appointment with the virtual hand clinic for the following day. Couldn't have asked for more. As they were injecting my child with the local anaesthetic, the consultant Jamie gave her his phone to use and watch YouTube on so she wouldn't pay attention to what was happening to her thumb. The junior doctor Euan was pleasant and we had a good laugh with him which made the whole trip a lot easier. The nurses Matt and Donna we saw were also lovely and made my daughter feel at ease. Excellent experience.
