I was refered to Orthopaedics at the beginning of 2018 as I needed a knee replacement. Without being seen the CCG said no to me even seeing anyone. This was based on me being overweight. I have Fibromyligia and widespread Osteoarthritis which is in my feet so exercise is hard.
I looked on Google , and found case studies that showed that being overweight wasn't a problem.
I contacted Pals who were so helpful. They got me an appointment with a surgeon, but didn't promise it would result in an operation. I saw an a member of the team who took all my details but he had to ask the consultant if he would do the operation.
He came in and said " that my knee was very bad and with my history he would put me forward for the operation " I had the operation on the 31st December 2018 , and the following day I was up and moving around. The physio was very pleased and said I was ready to go home on day the 3rd day. I went home the following day and a physio came out to my home and was so pleased with my progress , I even went up and down the stairs. I recovered quicker this time , than I did from my knee replacement 2 years ago. The pain has been less and my mobility is better.
I was walking with a tri walker before,
I now walk with 1 walking stick. It just goes to show that you can do the operation on a person that is overweight.
But it needs to be the right person who will put in the work to exercise afterwards. I do intend to contact the
CCG as they should not disseminate people and it's against the Royal College of Surgeons ethics.
The only downside was waiting 5 1/2 hours for my medication to come up from the pharmacy!
Thank you to the surgeon and his team. I also have to thank the Antheatistis who did my spinal , she was so kind and understanding.
She explained everything she was doing and why.
"Fantastic"
