"Bad attitude ."

About: Darlington Memorial Hospital

What I liked

I attended the wheelchair clinic with my 5 years old Grandson , who has quadriplegic cerebral palsy.

I was very pleased that when I requested a new wheelchair for my Grandson, was told I could have one .

The staff were pleasant and helpful.

Gave me information a leaflet and waiting time for wheelchair,

What could be improved

Unfortunately that's where it ends !

I waited the maximum 12 weeks and then contacted the department , only to be told that they were waiting for a strap to be made , and would contact me as soon as .

I then waited another 4 weeks and contacted them again, only to be told this time that the wheelchair, had in fact never been ordered.

I then received a letter telling me that the wheelchair had arrived and gave me a clinic date.

I contacted them to ask if I could have it sooner as the one my Grandson is in is too small for him, and he can tip himself out of it, not forgetting that the chair was ordered in Sept 11.

I was told no I had to wait as they had booked the clinic now( always the same very unhelpful person on phone).

Anything else?

May I just add that I am my Grandsons special guardian. I firmly believe that he was still a looked after child , then none of these problems would have taken place.

I cannot recommend that people do not attend a clinic, as people will always need these services, and that's why the staff attitude is lacking .
