As I am rhesus negative with a rhesus positive baby I was informed at my 16 week midwife appt that I would need shots of Anti-D if I had any spotting. Woke up to bleeding in week 19 on a Sunday, called the midwife to double check what I should do and was told to go to the nearest A&E straight away. Got a cab to Hillingdon A&E where we were then sent round the corner to their Antenatal Triage unit in another building. Was pleased to see an empty waiting room and explained the situation. They then said I should go to the Queen Charlotte's where I am usually booked since it would take 'a long time' to get blood results and 'they wouldn't be able to update my file' (both turned out to be false information). I felt a bit stressed at this point and felt rather dismissed but went to the Queen Charlotte Triage where I was then told because I wasn't quite 20 weeks yet I should go to the St Mary's A&E.

At this point I just burst into tears out of worry and frustration. The wonderful midwife at Queen Charlotte cleared the room for me to find out why I was so upset and after explaining this was my 3rd stop of the day she said it wasn't fair for me to to pay the price for all the other departments giving me faulty instructions. So she kindly arranged to see me, took my bloods, checked the baby and gave me the injection I needed. All whilst being the only midwife on staff, keeping all the other patients informed and providing excellent personalised care throughout an amber alert. Truly a super-woman and just so appreciated after what had been an unnecessarily stressful experience!
