"My cancer"

About: Borders General Hospital / Medical Oncology

(as the patient),

I have been diagnosed with cancer. After being told no further action was needed after biopsy results.

It's now over 100 days since my diagnosis and I have still not seen a doctor or received any treatment.the national target is 62 days. With no treatment in sight I feel very angry and let down with this poor service.

With my life basically on hold what do I do ?

Dear John1965,

Your story raises a number of concerns for me! Please can you get in touch with my secretary and provide a phone number and some details so that we can look into this for you and get some more information? The number is 01896826195. If you leave your number with her, I will call you back once I know more.

Best wishes,

Lynn

Hi John1965,

Thank you so much for getting in contact with some further details. It was good to talk to you earlier and I hope that everything goes well for you today.

As discussed on the phone, your parent team will be in contact with you very soon to ensure appropriate plans are in place.

One of the (many!) positives of Care Opinion is the fact that the patient or relative can get in contact with a health or social care organisation and hopefully reach the right people to answer concerns or indeed to provide feedback on services. As health care professionals, we are sometimes unaware of patient's ongoing concerns or worries (particularly if another team involved) and using CO can be an excellent way to reach clinicians for reassurance. I hope that we have managed to do this through this process but (as discussed on the phone) would invite you to get back in contact in the future, should you have any further concerns.

All the very best for your future care,

Lynn
